It is spoken by about 47,000 Kora people mainly in the state of West Bengal in the northwest of India, particularly in the districts of Paschim Medinipur and Bankura. There are also speakers of Koda in the neighbouring states of Odisja and Jharkhad, and in the Puthia, Mohonpur and Mundumala areas of the Rajshahi Division in the northwest of Bangladesh.
