Palauan, or Belauan, is a member of the Sunda-Sulawesi branch of the Austronesian language family. It is spoken in Palau, Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands by about 21,000 people (in 2015). Palauan is one of the offical languages of Palau, along with English.
A Latin-based alphabet for Palauan was devised by the Palau Orthography Committee and linguists from the University of Hawaii in the early 1970s.
