Anyin

Anyin is a member of the Kwa branch of the Niger-Congo language family. It is spoken mainly in eastern Ivory Coast / Côte d’Ivoire, and also in western Ghana, by about 1.5 million people. In Côte d’Ivoire it is spoken by about 1.45 million people in the districts of Comoé, Lagunes, Lacs and Zanzan. In Ghana there are about 66,400 speakers of Anyin in Aowin Suman district of the Western Region.

Anyin is also known as Agni, Agni Sanvi, Agny, Awonyuin or Anyi. There are two groups of Anyin dialects: Northern and Central. It is closely related to Baoulé, Nzeme and Sehwi, and has many words borrowed from Akan.
