Mbato is a member of the Kwa branch of the Niger-Congo language family. It is spoken by about 152,000 people in the southeast of Ivory Coast / Côte d’Ivoire, particularly along the east bank of the Comoé in the Sud-Comoé District, and in the Petit Alépé subprefecture of the Lagunes District.
Mbato is also known as Goaa, Gwa, M'bato, Mbatto, Mgbato, N-Batto, Nglwa, Ogwia or Potu. It can be written with the Latin alphabet.
