Kakwa (kʊ́tʊ́ nà kákwà)

Kakwa is member of the Eastern Nilotic branch of the Nilo-Saharan language family. It is spoken by about 510,000 people in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and South Sudan. In particular, Kakwa speakers can be found in the city of Yei in Yei River County, and in Morobo County in the southwest of South Sudan; in the Koboko Distict in the Northern Region in the northwest of Uganda; and in the cities of Ingbokolo and Aba in Haut-Uélé province in the northeast of the DRC.

Kakwa is also known as Kakuwâ or Kutu na Kakwa. It is related to Bari, Mandari and other Bari languages. There are several ways to write it with the Latin alphabet. Tone indication appears to be optional.
