Arleng / Karbi Alphabet Arleng

The Arleng, or Karbi, alphabet was created by Sarthe Teron Milik as a way to write Karbi, a Sino-Tibetan language spoken in Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh in northern India. Karbi is normally written with the Latin alphabet, and sometimes with the Assamese alphabet.

Sarthe Teron Milik started working on his alphabet in 1993, while at school, and published a book about it in 2014. He believes that Karbi should adopt its own script, rather than using the Latin or Assamese alphabets. Other waya to write Karbi were invented by Ripu Rahang: Karbi Mek'lek and Arleng Mekʼlek.
