Gen is a member of the Gbe branch of Volta-Niger language family. It is spoken in the Maritime Region in the southeast of Togo, and in the Mono Department in southern Benin. In 2006 there were about 330,000 speakers of Gen, which is also known as Gɛ̃, Gɛn gbe, Gebe, Guin, Mina, Mina-Gen or Popo.
Gen has been taught in some primary schools in Benin. There are also some radio programs in Gen in Togo.
