Ososo is a member of the Edoid branch of Volta-Niger language family. It is spoken by 50,000 people in Edo and Kogi states in southern Nigeria, particularly in the town of Ososo in Akoko-Edo Local Government Area (LGA) in the north of Edo State, and also in Okene and Adavi LGAs in Kogi State.
Ososo is written with the Latin alphabet. There are various spelling systems, and the one below was proposed by Agnes Temitope Legbeti of the University of Lagos in 2024.

Ósósọ̀, a minor Ẹdoid language, currently lacks a standardized writing system. When the need for literacy arises, the literate Ósósọ̀ indigenes often resort to an ad hoc mixture of the writing systems of Yoruba, Ẹdo and English languages to write in Ósósọ̀. This study investigates the phonological structure of Ósósọ̀ alongside the orthographic systems of these three languages. Its findings shows that the writing systems of these languages, singularly or combined, cannot adequately represent the sound system of Ósósọ̀.
