Chiquihuitlán Mazatec (Hne naja)

Chiquihuitlán Mazatec is a Mazatecan language spoken in San Juan Chiquihuitlán in the State of Oaxaca in southern Mexico. There are about 1,500 speakers of Chiquihuitlán Mazatec, which is also known as Mazateco de San Juan Chiquihuitlán, Mazateco del sur, Masateko, Mazateco or Mazatec.

Chiquihuitlán Mazatec has a form of whistled speech, which is used mainly by men and boys.

Efforts are being made to document the language and to encourage more people to speak it.
