Copala Triqui is a member of the Mixtecan branch of the Oto-Manguean language family. It is spoken in the state of Oaxaca in southern Mexico, mainly in the town of San Juan Copala. There are also speakers in Juxtlahuaca and Miguel Alemán in Oaxaca, in the San Quintín valley of Baja California, and in Mexico City. In 2007 there were about 25,000 speakers of Copala Triqui in Mexico, and there were another 5,000 in California in the USA.
Copalal Triqui is also known as Copala Trique, Copala-Trique, Trike, Trique, Triqui Bajo, Triqui de San Juan Copala or Triqui de Copala.
