Enawene Nawe is a Southern Arawakan language spoken by about 570 people in Halataikwa and Kolinakwa in the Enawenê-nawê Indigeous Land near the Iquê River, a tributary of the Juruena River, in the west of the State of Mato Grosso in western Brazil. Most Enawene Nawe people are monolingual in Enawene Nawe and only a few speak Portuguese, although this is changing as they have more contact with outsiders.
Enawene Nawe is also known as Enawené-Nawé, Enawenê-Nawê, Eneuene-Mare, and used to be known as Salumã. It is written with the Latin script.

Chief of the non-Indians,
Our land is very important to us.
We don't want our territory invaded.
Where will we plant corn and look for fish?
Where will we get honey?
Where will our children grow?
Many years ago our ancestors showed us our lands, it was here
that our people were born. Here our people grew up.
Because you made an ugly writing of our land.
Don't be silly, chief, you have to be smart.
Write down our traditional territory right away.
The Enawene Nawe are the ones who speak.
