Binukid is a member of the North Manobo branch of the Philippine language family. It is spoken by the Higaonon, Talaandig and Pulangiyen tribes in the Northern Mindanao in the southern Philippines, particularly in Bukidnon, Lanao del Norte and Misamis Oriental provinces. In 2005 there were about 122,000 speakers of Binukid, which is also known as Bukid, Higaonon, Binokid, Binukid Manobo or Bukidnon.
Binukid is a co-official language in Bukidnon province (Probinsya ta Bukidnon), where it is known as Higaonon. Binukid is spoken mainly by older adults, however in the Province of Bukidnon a number of schools teach in Binukid and some include lessons in Binukid arts and culture as well.
