Iraya

Iraya is a member of the Central Luzon branch of the Philippine language family. It is spoken in the Mimaropa region of the Philippines, specifically in the provinces of Mindoro Occidental and Mindoro Oriental in the north of Mindoro island. There are about 10,000 speakers of Iraya, which is also known as Iraya Mangyan.

Dialects of Iraya include Abra de Ilog, Alag Bako, Pagbahan, Palauan-Calavite and Pambuhan. They differ in pronunciation and in where some of their words are borrowed from: some dialects borrow from Tagalog, while others borrow from other local languages. There is a register of Iraya speech called Ita'as which is only used and understand by shamans.
