Buol is a member of the Gorontalic group of Philippine languages. It is spoken by about 96,000 people in the Buol Regency in the north of Central Sulawesi Province in Indonesia, particularly in Pomayagon village in Momunu District, in Bokat village in the Bokat District, and in Leok I village in Biau District.
There are two dialects of Buol: Buol Pomayagon, which is spoken in Pomayagon village, and Buol Bokat, which is spoken in Bokat and Leok I villages.
Buol is also know as Bual, Bwo'ol or Dia. Native speakers called it Apadu Vuolo ['apadu 'βuɔʎɔ]. It is closely related to Gorontalo, which is also spoken in northern Sulawesi.
