Munji (مونجى)

Munji is a member of the Eastern Iranian branch of Indo-Iranian languages. It is spoken by about 5,300 people in northeastern Afghanistan, mainly in the Mamalgha and Munjan valleys in the Kuran wa Munjan district of Badakhshan Province. It is official recognised as a Statutory language of provincial identity in Badakhshan Province.

Munji is also known as Munjani, Munjigi or Munjiwar. There are two dialects, Northern Munji and Southern Munji, which are mutually intelligible. It is written with the Arabic alphabet, and it used in schools and literature to some extent.

باد ڤاۍ له حيساگي ۍيکيت که وه ڤه ۍؤ حيسايش نه پؤرانش ديلد وه يؤ حيسا نه پشݢانش ديلد.

Transliteration

Bād vāy la hīsāgī yīkīt ka wa va yū hīsāyiš na pūrāniš dīld wa yū hīsā na pišḱāniš dīld.

Translation

Then she divided it into two portions so that she could give her son his portion and one portion to the cat.
