Wakhi (x̌ik zik / х̆ик зик)

Wakhi is a member of the Southern Pamir group of Iranian languages. It is spoken in parts of Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and China by about 31,000 people. Speakers of Wakhi call themselves Wakhi or Pamiri.

Wakhi is used to some extent on the radio on TV in Pakistan. Although it is traditionally not written, there are ways of writing it using the Arabic, Cyrillic and Latin alphabets. A spelling system using the Latin alphabet was developed by Haqiqat Ali in 1984, and a Cyrillic spelling system for Wakhi is used sometimes in Tajikistan.

Translation (Lord's Prayer)

Our Father which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done,
as in heaven, so in earth.
Give us day by day our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins;
for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us.
And lead us not into temptation;
but deliver us from evil.
