Archi (Аршаттен чӀат)

Archi is a Northeast Caucasian language spoken by the Archi people in and around the village of Archib (Арчиб) in the south of the Republic of Dagestan in southwest of the Russian Federation. In 2010 there were about 970 speakers of Archi. It is thought to related to Avar and Lak, although its exact relationship to these languages and others has not been established as yet.

Until recently Archi was unwritten, except in some scholarly publications, and a version of the Latin alphabet was used. In 2006 a Cyrillic-based orthography based on the Avar Cyrillic alphabet was developed and used in the Archi-Russian-English Dictionary by the Surrey Morphological Group.

Russian translation

Как к Али-Айшат пришли черти. Жила-была Али-Айшат, и было у нее два сына, один Абдул Муталиб, другой Абдул Кагир. Они были очень богатые люди. Поле у нее засеивалось тридцатью мерами зерна. Обработать его было трудно, так как помощников у них не было. Пошла Али-Айшат со своими сыновьями вниз по реке на жатву.
