Budukh is spoken by about 200 people in the Quba district in the northeast of Azerbaijan, and also in a few towns in the Russian Federation. Budukh is a member of the Lezgian subgroup of the Northeast Caucasian language family, is also known as Budugh, Budug, Budugi, Budux or Bukukhi, and is closely related to Kryz.
Budukh is endangered and there is an on-going a language shift towards Azerbaijani, which the majority of Budukh speakers also speak.

I was born in the village of Budukh in the year 1955. He went to school at the age of seven. My father died when I was six years old. In the year 1965, graduated from school. Then the twelfth state farm of the school in the ninth grade. In the year 1977, he finished the tenth grade. After graduation, he worked as a worker in the village for one year. After that, he entered the medical institute in the year 1968. After six years of study, he passed the exam, I got a doctor's diploma. Now I'm in Baku at the Semashko Hospital working as a surgeon.
