Chamalal is a member of the Avar-Andic branch of Northeast Caucasian languages spoken in Tsumadinsky district of southwestern Dagestan in the Russian Federation. The Chamalals live along the left bank of the Andi-Koisu river in the villages of Lower-Gaquar, Agual, Tsumada, Urukh, Gachitl, Quenkh, Gigatl and Gadór. There are two main dialects of Chamalal: Gaquar and Gigatl.
Chamalal is rarely written and speakers of Chamalal generally use Avar when writing. It can be written with the Cyrillic alphabet.
