Aneityum (Anejom̃)

Aneityum is a member of the Southern Oceanic branch of the Malayo-Polynesian language family. It is spoken by about 900 people on Aneityum Island in Tafea Province in the south of Vanuatu.

Aneityum is also known as Aneiteum, Aneiteumese, Anejom, Antas Anejom̃ or Intas Anejom. It was first written in 1882 with a orthography developed by John Inglis (1808-1891), a missionary from Scotland, who published a dictionary of the language. Since then the spelling system has been revised somewhat.

Translation

Our father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory for ever and ever. Amen
