Paama

Paamese is a member of the Central Vanuatu group of the Southern Oceanic branch of the Malayo-Polynesian language family, It is spoken by about 6,000 people on Paama island in Malampa Province in northern Vanuatu, and in others parts of Vanuatu, particularly in Port Vila, the capital.

Paamese is also known as Paama. It is closely related to Vatlongos (Southeastern Ambrym), which is spoken on the nearby island of Ambrym, although the two languages are not mutually intelligible.

A way to write Paamese with the Latin script was created in the mid-20th century and has been used since then.
