Mussau-Emira is a member of the Oceanic branch of the Malayo-Polynesian language family. It is spoken by about 5,000 people on the islands of Mussau and Emira in New Ireland Province in the northeast of Papua New Guinea. Mussau and Emira are part of the St Matthias Islands, which are also known as the Mussau Islands.
