Chokwe is a Bantu language spoken in Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia. There were 1.7 million speakers of Chokwe in 2014, most of whom live in Angola and the DRC. Chokwe is a national language of Angola, and is used as lingua franca in eastern Angola.
Spelling rules for Chokwe were established in Angola by the Instituto de Línguas Nacionais (National Languages Institute) with the aim of making use of the language easier.
Chokwe has been taught in primary schools since 2012, and is also used on the radio and in films, and there is a Chokwe version of the Bible.
B, d and g are only used in loanwords and foreign names.
