Lozi (siLozi)

Lozi is a Bantu language spoken by about 570,200 people mainly in southwestern Zambia. It is spoken particularly in Western Province and in Southern Province around Livingstone. It is also spoken in Zimbabwe, Bostwana, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Namibia. Lozi is closely related to Northern Sotho, Tswana, Kgalagari and Sotho, and developed from Luyana and Kololo.

Lozi is also known as Rozi, siLozi, Serotse or Sekololo, and is considered by some a dialect of Sotho.

Lozi is an official language in Zambia. It is used in the media in Zambia and in DR Congo. It is also used in education and administration in Namibia.

The spelling system for Lozi was standarised in Zambia in 1977.
