Gogo (Cigogo)

Gogo is a Bantu language spoken by about 1.44 million people mainly in the Dodoma Region in central Tanzania. There are also speakers of Gogo in the Manyoni district of the Singida Region, and in the Manyara and Iringa regions.

Gogo is also known as Chigogo, Cigogo or Kigogo. Dialects include Nyambwa or West Gogo (Cinyambwa), Nyaugogo or Central Gogo (Cinyaugogo), and Tumba or East Gogo (Citumba). Nyambwa is spoken to the west of Dodoma and in Manyoni. Nyaugogo is spoken in Dodoma, and Tumba is spoken in the east of the Gogo-speaking area.

Gogo is written with the Latin alphabet. There is a dictionary of Gogo, and a translation of the Bible.
