North Teke is a Bantu language spoken by about 140,000 people, mainly in the southeast of Gabon, and also in the east of The Republic of the Congo. In Gabon it is spoken in the Haut-Ogooué Province between Franceville and the Mpama river, and in the Republic of the Congo it is spoken in the Ewo and Okoyo districts of the Cuvette Department, and in the Abala district of the Plateaux Department.
North Teke is also known as Teke-Tege, Latege, Tege, Teghe, Itege, Katege, Ketego, or Tɛgɛ. There are two dialects: Kateghe and Keteghe. It is closely related to Ombamba, Teke-Kukuya, Ngungwel and Teke-Eboo.
North Teke is written with the Latin alphabet. There is an orthography used by Pauline Linton in the Dictionnaire Latege (North Teke Dictionary). Other orthographies are available.
