Nimadi (निमाड़ी)

Nimadi is a number of the Rajasthani branch of the Indo-Aryan language family. It is spoken in central India by about 2.3 million people, mainly in the Khargone, Barwani and Khandwa districts of the Nimar region of Madhya Pradesh state, and also in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh states.

Nimadi is also known as Nemadi, Nimari or Nimiadi. It is closely related to Malvi, Hindi, Gujarati and Marathi.

Sample Text (Luke 1:1-3)

  1. एकालेण कि घणा नऽ ऊनी वात नऽ कऽ जी अपणा इचम हुयेल छे इतिहास लिखण मऽ हाथ लगायल छे,
  2. जसौ कि उन्हनऽ जी पइलऽ सी इनी वात कऽ देखणऽ वाळा नऽ बचन का सेवक था हमरा तक पोयचाया।
  3. एकालेण हे श्रीमान थियुफिलुस मकऽ भी ई उचित मालुम हुयो कि ऊनी सबई वात नऽ पूरो हाल पइलऽ सी ठीक-ठीक परखीकनऽ उनकऽ थारा लेणऽ नम्बर सी लिख्यो।

Transliteration

  1. ekāleṇ ki ghaṇā naa ūnī vāt naa kaa jī apnā icam huyel che itihās likhaṇ maa hāth lagāyal che,
  2. jasai ki unhanaa jī pailaa sī inī vāt kaa dekhaṇaa vāḷā naa bacan kā sevak thā hamrā tak poycāyā.
  3. ekāleṇ he śrīmān thiyuphilus makaa bhī ī ucit mālum huyo ki ūnī sabaī vāt naa pūro hāl pailaa sī ṭhīk-ṭhīk parakhīkanaa unkaa thārā leṇaa nambar sī likhyo.

Translation

  1. FORASMUCH as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,
  2. Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word;
  3. It seemed good to me also, havinghad perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,
